BC Blueberries for Dinner Meal Kit

On March 12th, Chef Dez led participants through the BC Blueberries for Dinner virtual cook-along

On March 12th, 2021, the BC Blueberry Council hosted BC Blueberries for Dinner, a virtual cook-along to help celebrate the frozen BC Blueberry season and the Fraser Valley.

Before the Event

Those that participated in this online cook-along had to pre-order the Three-Course BC Blueberries meal kit from Abbotsford-based food delivery company, Local Food Supply Co. Each meal kit ($85) contained all-local ingredients to make three BC Blueberry recipes (the Blueberry Prosciutto Goat Cheese Flatbread, Roasted Yam and BC Blueberry Kale Salad, and BC Blueberry Sauce over ice cream), and still have leftovers! The star meal kit ingredient was frozen BC Blueberries. This little blue superfood was incorporated into all three meals, proving just how versatile frozen blueberries truly are.

Meal kits were delivered by Local Food Supply Co. to customers within the Fraser Valley on March 11th. Those living outside of the Valley were still welcome to participate, but instead had to commute to Local Food Supply Co. to pick up their kits in person.

During BC Blueberries for Dinner

Starting at 6:00 PM on March 12th, the BC Blueberry Council’s Marketing and PR Coordinator, Clara Morán-Sakalauskas, kicked things off by introducing those involved in the event.

This included:

  • The internal PR and social media team for the BC Blueberry Council
  • Local Food Supply Co.’s representative, Perry Pugh
  • Fraser Valley celebrity and chef instructor, chef Dez
  • Fraser Valley BC Blueberries for Dinner influencer partners
  • Growers and Council members

Afterwards, chef Dez got down to business and began showing participants how to create all three BC Blueberry recipes from the ingredients found in their meal kits.

Some chose to cook alongside chef Dez from the comfort of their homes, while others opted to listen and take notes for later. Throughout the cooking demo, chef Dez entertained everyone with his charisma and humor, while simultaneously answering questions and offering valuable cooking tips. His teaching style was easy to follow, allowing all participants to watch, learn, and cook if they chose to. By 7:30 PM, participants had successfully created their own three-course meal with frozen BC Blueberries infused into every dish.

After the Event

Following the event, responses from participants and the public were very positive. Here are a few comments from those that attended BC Blueberries for Dinner:

If you missed this event, you can still purchase a Three-Course BC Blueberries meal kit online from Local Food Supply Co. Although the BC Blueberries for Dinner cook-along is over, you can follow the recipes and cook your own meals at home.

Meal kits are available while supplies last, so make sure to purchase one HERE before they’re gone for good!

Thank you to everyone who attended BC Blueberries for Dinner to help celebrate frozen BC Blueberries and the bountiful Fraser Valley region where they are grown.
