U-Pick BC Blueberry Farms Look Forward to Welcoming You

Wed, Jun 24, 2020
Field

Wondering if you will be making your annual visit to a BC blueberry U-pick patch this summer? The BC Blueberry Council has good news! You and your family WILL be able to enjoy blueberry picking at BC U-pick farms, but how you do so will look a little different.

The following outlines what practices BC Blueberry producers have implemented to keep employees, customers, and visiting families safe!

INFORMATION FOR U-PICK BLUEBERRY FARM VISITORS IN 2020

BC U-pick farmers, and those with on-farm stands, are safely operating U-pick farms during COVID-19 by following the guidelines found in the link below.

To ensure that safety is the top priority, U-pick farmers have adjusted customer/employee communication, strengthened health and safety procedures, and are following tips on physical distancing measures.

To read the new mandatory U-pick farm procedures, click HERE.

In order to welcome visitors back, U-pick farmers have made alterations to the following practices:

  • Communication with customers
  • Customer handwashing
  • Picking containers
  • Physical distancing
  • Payment practices
  • Operation of farm stands

If you would like to visit a U-pick farm, remember these considerations:

  • Do not bring your own containers to pick berries
  • Do not eat in the field or taste test the berries
  • Maintain distance of two meters from those not in your family group, including farm staff
  • Wash your hands with soap (or use hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol or higher) before and after your visit
  • Practice contactless payment if possible- using a card instead of cash

Please remember the procedures outlined above are mandatory and not suggestions to consumers. As things can change rapidly at this time, when the blueberries are ripe and you are ready for your visit, refer to this list with U-Pick Farms HERE. Don’t forget to call ahead or check their website to make sure they are open.

A note from the BC Ministry of Agriculture

U-pick businesses operating during the COVID-19 pandemic follow Provincial Health Officer (PHO) orders and guidance and have developed a plan in accordance with the guidance from WorkSafeBC.

For questions or concerns on the new U-pick practices, CONTACT Ministry of Agriculture 1-888-221-7141 or AgriServiceBC@gov.bc.ca
