South Granville's Blueberry Event a Resounding Success

Tue, Jul 30, 2019
The Rise Eatery wrap-up dinner

(Vancouver, BC) – It was all systems blue for 10 days for South Granville’s restaurants and retail outlets as the British Columbia Blueberry Council (BCBC) teamed up with the South Granville Business Improvement Association (SGBIA) to promote blueberries and all things blue for ‘Go Blue on South Granville’.

This 10-day event (July 18 to 28) saw 14 of South Granville’s restaurants (from 5th to 16th Avenue) featuring local blueberries in both savoury and sweet offerings, as well as beverages.  The participating restaurants were:

  • Bean Around the World
  • Bin 4 Burger Lounge

  • Breakfast Table

  • Cheesecake Etc.

  • Fiore

  • Goodge Place

  • Heirloom

  • JamJar

  • Meinhardt Fine Foods

  • Ouisi Bistro

  • The Rise Eatery

  • The Stable House Bistro

  • Vij’s Rangoli

  • West Restaurant & Bar

In addition, South Granville was transformed with hues of blue as various retailers (Purdy’s, Mine & Yours, Lord’s Shoes & Apparel, Murchie’s, Plum, Diane’s Lingerie, Eileen Fisher, Le Creuset, RBC and L’Occitane) celebrated blueberries in their own ways. There was a Blueberry Jam at Ouisi Bistro, a Blueberry Beer Tasting at Jak’s Liquor, and Blue hair dying at Suki’s.

The blueberry season is now well underway with BC berries in grocery stores, food markets and roadside stands. Fresh berries will be available to consumers through to September and then they can be enjoyed as frozen berries.

The BC Blueberry Council represents over 600 highbush growers and collaborates with approximately 30 packers/processors. Combined, these growers have around 30,000 acres of highbush blueberries planted – about the size of 30 Stanley Parks! Canada is one of the largest blueberry growing countries worldwide.
