Last call for Fresh BC Blueberries

Fall is definitely in the air and with the change of the season, BC blueberry growers are busy harvesting the last crops of the season.

Some of the late blueberry varieties currently available in stores are called Reka, Elliot, Aurora and Last Call.  These varieties are richer in colour and more flavourful than some of the earlier varieties. 

“Our fresh blueberry season is just about over, but there’s abundant supply in the freezer sections of supermarkets – enough to last until the next fresh season,” says Anju Gill, executive director of the BC Blueberry Council. “Our frozen berries are every bit as good as the fresh ones and easy to use in so many ways.”

Whether you want to make the last of your blueberry jam or blueberry pies, or simply freeze your own for later use, now is the time to visit your favorite vendor (but call ahead to make sure they have berries available).

With over 80 years of blueberry-growing experience, the BC Blueberry Council represents over 600 highbush growers.
