BC Blueberry growers celebrate the foods we love

As part of Canada’s Agriculture Day celebrations this past week, the BC Blueberry Council reminds blueberry aficionados that blueberry season is year round as there’s plenty of delicious frozen BC blueberries in the freezer section of your local supermarkets.

The Council also celebrates the more than 600 hardworking grower members who combined harvest more than 77 million kilograms (150 million pounds) of blueberries each season.

In BC, there are more than 11,000 hectares (or the equivalent of 27 Stanley Parks) of highbush blueberries planted in order to meet growing demand – locally and internationally. 

With over 80 years of blueberry-growing experience, the BC Blueberry Council represents these highbush blueberry growers as well as 30 packer-processors.

The Council has a strong commitment to on-farm food safety and works diligently with blueberry growers and collaborates with packers and processors to ensure that BC blueberries meet the highest standards for food safety and quality.
