BC Blueberries: A great addition to your holiday celebration

BC Blueberries holiday

Abbotsford, B.C.  – Roast turkey and pumpkin pie are the traditional choices for holiday dinner, but this year, try spicing things up with BC Blueberries!

Although the fresh blueberry season has come to an end, there’s lots of frozen product available in your supermarket freezer aisle. Anju Gill, executive director of the BC Blueberry Council, reminds us that “frozen berries are every bit as good as fresh ones and easy to use in so many ways.”

Start your family dinner off with these savoury blueberry scroll biscuits. Another idea: toss a few blueberries in your cranberry sauce or in this blueberry turkey stuffing. To top off the meal, give your guests a choice of this blueberry lattice top pie along with the traditional pumpkin pie – just don’t forget the ice cream!

Want to try something new this year? Here are some unique holiday recipe ideas:

With over 80 years of blueberry-growing experience, the BC Blueberry Council represents over 600 highbush growers. Combined, these growers have more than 28,000 hectares of highbush blueberries planted in order to meet growing demand.  This past summer was another banner year for the popular berries – early estimations are that more berries were harvested than ever before.

The BC Blueberry Council has a strong commitment to on-farm food safety and works diligently with blueberry growers.  It also collaborates with packers and processors to ensure that BC blueberries meet the highest standards for food safety and quality. For more information: www.bcblueberry.com.
